Mr Stuart Roy
MBChB Mphil FRCS (Ed) FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Stuart obtained his medical degree from Bristol University in 1992. Post registration he attended Cambridge University to undertake a year of research studying human articular cartilage for his MPhil.
Stuart completed his orthopaedic training on the All Wales Specialist Registrar training program and completed a fellowship in South Australia. This fellowship allowed Stuart to gain valuable experience in his specialist field of lower limb and sports surgery.
Stuart has now been a Consultant for 3 years at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. He is Assistant Clinical Director of surgery in this Trust. He specializes in lower limb surgery particularly the knee and believes in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working closely with rhematologists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and orthotists.
He regularly performs arthroscopic procedures of the knee including cartilage repair techniques and ligament reconstruction. He also performs minimally invasive, partial and total knee operations for arthritic conditions; in addition he also performs revision knee replacement surgery. Moreover, he routinely performs total hip replacement surgery and foot and ankle surgery (including ankle arthroscopy, bunion and forefoot surgery).
Stuart is a recognised trainer of Specialist Registrars in Trauma and Orthopaedics and he plays an active role in teaching undergraduate medical students and has been awarded the role of Honorary Clinical Tutor by the University of Wales College of Medicine.
Having represented Wales at all levels in rugby he has maintained strong links with the game being an Honorary Surgeon at Pontypridd and Cardiff Rugby Football Clubs. He is also a Welsh Rugby Union affiliated Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Stuart maintains an active interest in Orthopaedic research particularly in the field of knee surgery. His research interests include aspects of total knee replacement surgery and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
Stuart also undertakes medico-legal work.
