Consultant Spinal Surgeon

Alwyn Jones specialises in non-operative and operative spinal surgery including injections, minimally invasive non-fusion and fusion techniques as well as spinal deformity, tumour and trauma surgery. Most spinal conditions he can treat with injection techniques but if this fails he has a large experience with non-fusion techniques such as disc replacement and interspinous process spacers as well as minimally invasive spinal fusions. He has a special interest in paediatric and adult deformity surgery as well as facet coblation treatment for back pain.

Alwyn routinely treats elite and professional athletes, with particular interest in spondylolysis and acute cervical disc disease in rugby and other contact sports. He is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and Honorary Consultant at Morriston and Singleton NHS Trust Swansea.

In addition to his surgical qualifications, he is an AO Spine Faculty member and holds a BSc in Pharmacology and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering. Alwyn is widely published in medical journals and is a member of many national professional organisations.

Alwyn trains other clinicians on spinal injection techniques and surgical procedures both locally and on courses. He strongly believes in offering a complete multidisciplinary spinal service through close links with referring therapists and clinicians.
